Coastal Promise Humanitarian Field Simulation, Swanton, MD (4/21-23): Application Period Open, Closes 4/3/23

The Forage Center for Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Education will hold a field exercise focusing on humanitarian and peacebuilding practices Friday, April 21 to Sunday, April 23, 2023. The exercise will be held in Swanton, MD. Go here to read about last June’s simulation.

It is open all U.S. and Canadian based graduate students (international studies in the U.S./Canada are welcome).

If you are interested in the day to day operations and work of humanitarian professionals as a career path, consider this exercise. It incorporates strong notions of team building, engaging with displaced persons, strategic planning, conflict resolution, and working with civil society and local officials.

The Forage Center has trained nearly 400 students through its field simulations. Many of those completing the exercise have applied their experience to careers in humanitarian operations, NGO work, U.S. domestic emergency management, Peace Corps, and other areas. This program is especially designed for those with little or no experience, but with an interest the field.

The application is here. The fee is $600 and due by April 3 (but applying earlier is best in that there is an enrollment limit). There is also a $300 scholarship that can be applied for (the deadline is extended to April 3).
