Community College Initiative, Northern Virginia Community College, Annandale, VA, 11/16/18

In the fall for the past several years I’ve had the honor of presenting to students from the Community College Initiative Program (CCI) based at NOVA/Annandale. CCI is a State Department program that funds international students coming to the U.S. for one year to learn in a U.S. community college.   My most recent visit was November 16, 2018.

As part of the program, I invite young peacebuilding professionals to talk about their work.  This year I included Mesa Ayazi (one of my students at George Mason University, who also works at USIP), Adam Wolf (who works at the Alliance for Peacebuilding), and Ruth Gopin (who recently started AmerXchange).

I’m reposted below Ruth’s short blog on the program.  Enjoy! Click below.

I am a career coach, consultant, and head of a not for profit - the Forage Center - that offers humanitarian education training. I also teach at George Mason University and Drexel University. A one time lawyer, I spent many years teaching in a community college where I was a Fulbright U.S. Scholar teaching in Estonia. I'm the author of Peace Jobs: A Student's Guide to Starting a Career Working for Peace (IAP 2016). I've been married to my best friend for over 31 years and we have two well adjusted adult children who teach me something new everyday. I live in Rockville, Maryland.
